Protecting Today... Preserving Tomorrow

Help save 5,800 wild acres of forest habitat in the central Pennsylvania Wilds from being turned into the largest dump east of the Mississippi. Let the people in power know this area, noted for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities, is not compatible with a landfill-incinerator-industrial park complex!

Centre County Natural Heritage Inventory

This Natural Heritage Inventory map notes Biological Diversity Areas (BDAs; dark green), Landscape Conservation Areas (LCAs; light green) and Important Bird Areas (IBAs; lavendar) found throughout and beyond Centre County. These areas provide vital habitat for plants, wildlife, and breeding grounds for migratory birds, some protected by state and federal conservation laws, and/or are noted for scenic beauty.

The IBAs bordering the 5,800-acre CLOG parcel, site of the proposed megalandfill, incinerator and industrial park, to the north and south are both noted as vital habitat for interior forest species. Interior forest species of birds and other wildlife have been noted on the CLOG parcel.

How will the proposed RRLLC landfill-incinerator-industrial park development affect these areas and the wildlife within? Clear-cutting this parcel for a landfill-incinerator-industrial park will fragment this contiguous interior forest. IBA surveys are done with permission of the landowner. It is unclear whether the owners of the 5,800-acre CLOG parcel participated in past surveys.
